Dr. Boulard graduated from St. Anselm College in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Tufts University of Dental Medicine in 1994. A lifelong resident of Nashua, Dr. Boulard brings with him a plethora of experience and training.
Dr. Bara and Dr. Boulard have been friends and colleagues for many years. We are pleased that they will be able to pool their areas of expertise for the benefit of our family of dental patients. New technologies abound at Bara Dental
Meet the light that’s making headlines.
Bara Dental has introduced one of the most powerful tools available for assisting in the discovery of oral abnormalities – the “VELscope system.”
An important component of a dental practice is the detection of changes to the oral tissue of the mouth and jaw that represent serious threats to health. Discovering soft tissue abnormalities is particularly important in the fight against oral cancer. Bara Dental uses the VELscope® Oral Examination Cancer Screening System to help detect this deadly disease.
Using a revolutionary safe blue light technology that is completely pain-free, non-invasive and takes only two minutes, they are able to view different fluorescent responses that help differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue and reveal conditions that should be investigated further. It is an oral screening system for the detection of abnormal soft tissue that can be an early warning sign of oral cancer.
According to the National Cancer Institute’s SEER database, oral cancer has a higher mortality rate than several better-publicized cancers, such as cervical cancer and testicular cancer. Some oral cancers are now known to be linked to exposure to the sexually transmitted human papilloma virus (HPV), which means that anyone who is sexually active is potentially at risk for the disease. Because of this, many health experts advise everyone 18-years-old and older to get an oral cancer exam at least annually.
The staff at Bara Dental felt so strongly about screening every one of their patients for oral abnormalities, the VELscope® exam is included as part of their normal intra- and extra-oral head and neck exam at no cost to the patient.
The VELscope® system is the first cleared by the FDA and Health Canada to help clinicians detect oral mucosal abnormalities, including cancer and pre-cancer, that might not be apparent to the naked eye.
